Obituary for Joseph Sumler

Joseph Sumler
Joseph (Joe) Bernard Sumler was born July 21, 1961 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Earl Sr. and Barbara Sumler. Joe was a lifelong resident of New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina caused him to relocate to Houston, Texas. After battling cancer for the second time, he was called home to be with the Lord but not before putting up a good fight. He died April 8, 2017, in Houston, Texas at the age of 55.

Joe graduated from George Washington Carver Sr. High School. He was very talented with his hands, specializing in carpentry, drawing and mechanical work. Joe was the family historian and a people’s person. He loved to tell stories, laugh and joke around. He also had a love for music and computers and enjoyed sharing it with others.

Joe is survived by his parents Earl Sr. and Barbara Sumler, his fiancée Elana Rayford; his siblings Earl Sumler Jr., Steven (Cynthia) Sumler, Veronica (Pythian) Noah, Princess Sumler, Lisa (Stanley) Sumler-Jones; four children, Keshawna (Rev. Malcolm) Bacchus, Joqaila, Joseph and Brandon Fountain; five grandkids, Donte’ Emilien, De’ja Singleton, Saige and Jayla Fountain and Sanaa Bacchus along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
