Obituary for Nancy Kay McBride (Waite)

Print
Nancy McBride, 68, beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018, in her home in Houston, Texas, after a short battle with cancer. Nancy was born June 7, 1950, in Denver, Colorado, to Helmer and Lucille (Teilborg) Waite. She met the love of her life, David William McBride, at Abilene Christian University, and the two married in 1972. Later David and Nancy moved to San Angelo, Texas, where they raised their three children, Jack Harrison McBride, Sarah Elizabeth McBride, and Jessica Erin (McBride) Taccolini. David and Nancy recently moved to Houston, Texas, to be close to their children and their grandchildren.

From her brother-in-law Daniel McBride: “she was a gentle, soft-spoken lady with rapier wit. The very emblem of kindness and unclouded Christianity. A protector and nurturer of the human spirit. She’s throwing off her old coat, as her new robe is draped on her warm shoulders so she can explore the rooms of her new mansion in her father’s house. She is home. We will miss her and rejoice in her memory till we meet again.”

Nancy is preceded in death by her father Helmer and her mother Lucille. She is survived by her husband David; their three children, Jack and his husband Thain Allen; Sarah; and Jessica and her husband Anthony (Tony) Taccolini, along with their three sons Robert David, Travis Michael, and Joshua Anthony Taccolini, all of Houston, Texas; her brother Dennis Kristensen of Denver, Colorado; her in-laws Daniel and Christina McBride of Andrews, Texas; her in-laws Regan and Julie (McBride) Dumbeck of Elgin, Texas; her sister-in-law, Dana McBride of Midland, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Nancy was an educator and a care giver, fiercely independent and a source of quiet strength. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in San Angelo, and she loved being around her family and friends. Though she was fighting this cancer, she made sure to be here for all of her family’s birthdays and for the arrival of two more grandchildren, seeing to it that all four angels were taken care of. David lovingly and unwaveringly held her hand through every step, ensuring her comfort throughout these final days. Their 50-year partnership was filled with laughter and joy, providing their family and friends with a true example of love, strength, compassion, and kindness.

Memorial services will be planned soon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy’s memory may be made to Building Bridges (attn.: Melissa Vines, Building Bridges, 14 South Jefferson Street, San Angelo, TX 76901; or online: https://westtexasrehab.org/give/general-donation/ -- select Hospice of San Angelo in the “Donate To:” field, and list “Building Bridges” in the comments section). The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Houston Hospice for their support in her final days.
