Obituary for Ina Eugenia Keefer (Harrison)

Print
Ina Eugenia Keefer passed away on January 21, 2019 after a brief hospitalization.
Ina was born in Hico, Texas on December 12, 1915. She grew up in Texas, and spent most of her life in Corpus Christi, TX.
Ina lived to be 103 years old, and she saw enormous changes during her lifetime. When she was born:
1) Women could not vote
2) TV and Radio stations didn't exist
3) The model T Ford had been invented just 7 years earlier, and car ownership was not yet widespread
4) Much of America still lived on family farms
5) World War I had started the year before

More recently, Ina’s favorite activity was watching Columbo and Matlock on cable TV using her LED big screen TV, which she operated with a voice-activated remote control and a wireless internet connection, technology that wasn’t even imagined when she was born.

Ina would tell great stories about her life:
Ina learned to drive when she was 13 years old, and she would pick up her father at work if her mother was too busy. The rules were a little different then.
Ina’s mom served in the Women’s Army Corps during WWII (while in her fifties). When she started, they had her slinging beers for soldiers. Eventually someone in authority realized that this very religious teetotalling woman would be better placed as a Chaplain’s Assistant.

Ina enjoyed playing games. She played Mahjong, Contract Bridge, Bingo, Scrabble, Gin, and Spades, and she was very competitive into her 90’s. Ina was a voracious reader until macular degeneration stopped her from reading. She loved romances, mysteries, and adventure novels.
Ina was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Until the very end, Ina's health was good. She had only one daily prescription pill that she had to take. Ina's vision wasn't so good, but her memory was just fine. Her grandchildren all hope that they got her health, memory, and longevity genes.

Ina was preceded in death by her husband Harry Ferrell Keefer, her daughter Peggy Pauline Gillis, her parents Julius Caesar Harrison and Winnie Myrtle Harrison, her sisters Myrtle Lee Harrison, Barbara Avis Hiser, Gloria June McNaughton, her brother Martel Wayne Harrison, and her nephew Michael Lee Harrison.
She is survived by her grandchildren Jeffrey Vaughan Gillis, Gregory Todd Gillis, Shelley Pauline DeLuna, Kimberly Gay Minchich, her great grandchildren Nicholas James Minchich, Michael John Minchich, Joseph Louis DeLuna, her nephews Charles Wayne Harrison, Terry Dane Harrison, Gil McNaughton, her great-nephews Milo Dane Harrison, Robert Steven Michael Harrison, Jonathan Lee Harrison, Nicholas Wayne Harrison, and her great niece Phoebe Harrison.
A celebration of Ina’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday January 26, 2019, at Integrity Funeral Care, 3915 Dacoma St., Suite E, Houston, TX 77092, 713-344-0764.
