Darrell was born on January 17, 1933 to Joseph and Alta (Taysom) Whitworth in Inkom, ID. He spent his formative years in Inkom and married his high school sweetheart, Juen (Evans) Whitworth on August 8, 1952 in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was drafted into the Korean War and served honorably in the Army from 1953-1955. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University in 1961. He had a distinguished career in Engineering that took him all over the world and included working on the fuel for the rocket engines used during the “Space Race.” Darrell and Juen served a couple service mission and served as Temple ordinance workers in both the Houston and San Antonio Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They retired in 1994 to Bastrop, Texas where he built his own log home and enjoyed “working the land” of their 9 acres before re-settling in Houston.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Elmer Whitworth and Alta Melissa Taysom and by his brother Larry Whitworth and sister Debbie Gerard. He is survived by his wife, Juen, and six children: Russell (Cheri) Whitworth, Michael (Carol) Whitworth, Douglas (Christina) Whitworth, David (Jennifer) Whitworth, Melanie (John) Chapman and Leisha (Tom) Shanklin. There are no words to express how profoundly grateful I am to my Heavenly Father for knowing this kind, caring and loving man. My life was forever changed for the better because of the Whitworth family and "Dad Whit". May God bring peace and comfort to you as you look forward to an eternity together.
