George passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2020 due to his nearly 5-year battle with terminal brain cancer. George, a Vietnam veteran served as a Combat Engineer SP E5 8th Battalion 1st Cavalry (airmobile) US Army from 1966-1969 and remained active Army reserves until 1972. At 22 years of age sent to the DMZ for which he received two Purple Hearts, a Distinguished Service medal, and a Medal of Merit.
George retired in 2017 after 18 years as Senior Piping Designer at Mustang Wood Group engineering here in Houston. He had spent 56 years dedicated to the engineering design works from offshore exploration platforms to onshore production and chemical plants. His friends and colleagues will always remember him for his big smile and chipper greetings to his snippy one-liners that always gave a snicker to those around. He was admired and regarded as a great inspiration for getting the job done right and on time.
George is survived by his loving wife Mary Ellen Strawbridge, the love of his life for 63 years his wife of 57 years; his loving and caring daughter Miranda Nicole Strawbridge, his dedicated caregiver until the very end. He remains in memory as a loving grandfather to Joseph Chase Young and granddaughter-in-law Samantha Chayanne, a devoted great-grandfather to Riker Stone Young. Beloved and admired by Brother-in-law Daryl W. Rodger, and James Rodgers, Nephew.
George was respected and adored by all who were privileged to know him, he will be missed and remembered by all. He has gone to be with our Lord God and will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
