On April 9th, 2023, Resurrection Sunday, Albina José Fernández de López, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away at the age of 80 years old. Albina was born in Margarita island, Venezuela in 1943.
While a teenager she worked in her hometown newspaper, only women to do so at the time. She loved water skiing and many times skied from Margarita Island to Coche island with her father at the wheel. She graduated as hair stylist, cosmetologist and manicurist at the Montera Academy in Madrid, Spain. Later, she continued her studies and graduated from the Academia de Estetica Femenina of Caracas. She continued to own her beauty salon for a while before She became a dental technician, a career she enjoyed for many years working beside her father. She learned to drive in her father’s Jeep at a very early age. When she met her husband when she was 9 and he was 12, it was love at first sight.
Albina had a giving heart. She was always eager to help and made everyone feel at home and loved. She enjoyed volunteering at her children’s school and was part of the parent’s association until each of her children graduated.
Her hobby and fascination was photography, which she enjoyed even until the final years.
She loved the sea and her wish was to retire in Margarita Island. But her love for her children brought her to the USA.
Albina was devoted to her family. Survived by her husband, Miguel Antonio; her children, Albina, Susana (and Robert), Miguel Ruben (and Liz); her grandkids, Michael and Elsa; and countless others whom she loved dearly as family. She was Predeceased by her parents, Rubén Fernández and Luisa Albina Rosario de Fernández.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to both Dr Nasiya Ahmed of Village Physicians and Dr Jeffrey Y Lee, Hospice Medical Director for their dedication, guidance, and compassion to our family. And to the care team; we will be forever grateful to the respect, kindness, and compassion each of you showed to Albina during her final days.
A Memorial Mass will be held on May 1st at St. John Vianney Catholic Church located at 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX 77079, at 10:30 am. All who knew and loved Albina are invited to attend.
