Obituary

Houston, TX – Alice B. Arriaga of Houston, TX passed away at age 93 on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. She was born on January 23, 1928 to Martin and Ilia Benitez in San Antonio, TX.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, 8200 Roos, Houston, TX 77036. Following the service, a reception for family and friends will be held at 12546 Westerley Ln., Houston, TX 77077.

Alice had a long career in banking that started at West Side Bank in San Antonio and continued in Chicago and Houston, where she ultimately retired with Tradition Bank. After retirement, she volunteered at Memorial Southwest Hospital of Houston for a number of years. One of her proudest moments was being chosen as First Princess in the Court of the Miss Fiesta Parade in San Antonio, TX in 1952. But, her greatest joy was her family and spending countless hours supporting their various sports activities. Alice had a warmth of spirit that was welcoming to all, as well as the remarkable gift of being able to make strangers feel like family.

Alice is survived by her children, Jesse Arriaga III and Shirley of Houston, TX, Susan Soulant (husband Mike Soulant) of Montgomery, TX and John Arriaga of Houston, TX. She had 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews whom she adored.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Jesse Arriaga, Jr.; her son, Martin Arriaga; her parents, Martin and Ilia Benitez and her sisters Ilia B. Catacalos and Connie Gonzales.
