Amelia (Amie) Hernandez Castillo passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, at the age of 86.
Amie was born November 26, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas. From an early age, she was instilled with hard work and perseverance, which she learned as she worked alongside her family in the cotton fields. As she grew older, her work continued at her family’s gas station, where she acquired the valuable business skills she would utilize later in life. She met and married Leo Castillo (divorced) and moved to Borger, Texas in 1962 where they were blessed with twin daughters Amelita and Martha Castillo. Martha would gain her wings before birth.
During her time in Borger, Amie utilized her business savvy, skills, and passionate work ethic to open a local gift shop; and later a dance club “The Waterfall.” Music was always a passion for Amie, as she brought in numerous musicians across the region to The Waterfall. Some even traveled from as far as Nashville, TN to play there.
Her vibrant, energetic personality and love for others resonated in all of her local activities. She was deeply involved in her community with her businesses, serving on The Chamber of Commerce as well as selling insurance.
Amie moved back to San Antonio in 1993 and immersed herself in the Tejano/Conjunto music industry where she became a music promoter for Grammy Award winner Flaco Jiminez as well as many other talented musicians. It was during this time as a promoter that Amie was able to travel the world, living life to the absolute fullest.
In her final years, Amie was sadly diagnosed with cancer and went to live with her daughter Amelita in Seabrook, Tx. Amie was blessed to never be in pain and was completely surrounded by love. She lived her last days enjoying her daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Amie often reflected on her life and had so many fun stories to tell of all her travels. Her life was truly one full of fun, love, and adventure.
Amie is preceded in death by her daughter Martha Castillo, parents Nicholas and Cruz Hernandez, sister Antonia Hernandez Gauna, brothers Roberto and Alberto Hernandez and niece Diana Tristan.
