Art Myrick, age 69, passed away on Jan 26, 2019 from complications due to lung cancer. He was born on December 16, 1949 to Frank and Evelyn Myrick in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Art is survived by his wife, Hong (Pepper) Myrick and had two children from a previous marriage. He will be missed by many friends, former and current ESL students at second Baptist Church, former students at Katy High School, and military veterans. Art was Lutheran and held strong Christian beliefs. Services are pending.
Art graduated from Tarrant H.S. in 1967, earned his BA from North Carolina State University studying English and Journalism. He completed his MA from Angelo State University studying Education and attended the University of Houston studying Instructional Technology program completing all but his dissertation toward his doctorate.
Art spoke English, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish. He had a distinguished military career in the Army spending three tours in Vietnam and retired as a First Sergeant. He then had a second career as a high school teacher at Katy High School. Art was an avid motorcyclist and member of the local and nation BMW motorcycle clubs.
Art inspired many with his quick wit and kind soul. He will be dearly missed.
