Benjamin Callis, Jr

With great sadness the family of Benjamin Lewis Callis, Jr, 72, of Sugar Land, TX announce his passing on December 7, 2021.

Ben is survived by his sons, Samuel Embry Callis and wife Megan of Rolla, MO and Caben Callis and wife Shanna of San Antonio. He leaves behind grandsons Cason, Hunter, Austin, and Weston Callis along with sisters Catherine Lamb and husband James, Margaret Horton and husband Walter, Becky Harris, brother Sam Callis and wife Katy and brother-in-law Jaime Crespo. His loving nieces and nephews are Winston and Stephen Lamb, Lucas Horton and Madeline Horton, Adrienne Strasser, Ben and Samantha Callis, Nick and Andre Crespo, Zac and Mason Harris, Robert, Katrina, and Bradley Callis. Ben is preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Lewis Callis, Sr, mother Catherine Roberta Callis, sister Theresa Crespo, and brother Robert Callis.

Ben was born in Tampa, Florida on October 6, 1949 and grew up in Houston graduating from St. Anne School, Lamar High School, and The University of Houston. He served proudly in the United States Marine Reserve. Sugar Land has been his home for the past 30 plus years where he was a devoted staff member at Austin High School in the Fort Bend Independent School District until his death. Ben was an avid reader and talented writer with an inquisitive curiosity particularly of history and the human condition. He will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service for family will be held in the near future.
