Bert Joseph Slaight, Jr., 65, of Houston, Texas passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015 after a long battle with metastatic cancer. Bert was born in Houston, Texas on February 10, 1950. He was the only child of Bert Joseph Slaight and Audrey Mildred Givans Slaight; both preceded him in death. Bert was a graduate of St. Thomas Senior High (1968), and the University of Houston (1988), where he studied History, and was a member of Houston Archaeology Society. Bert retired in 2000 from Ford Motor Company, and was active in the United Autoworker's Union/ UAW, holding a variety of positions. At the initial onset of illness, Bert was employed as a Dispatcher for Miller Transporters Incorporated at the Houston Terminal, TM18. Bert is survived by his wife of twenty years, Jo Ann Goodwin Slaight, and his cousins Bill Edison, Dan Harris, David Harris, Dorothy Gamez, Faye Nell Monzingo, James Givens, Julie Blake, Maggi Scarborough, Richard Edison, and Robert Edison. Services are scheduled for Friday, March 27, at one o'clock in the afternoon at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 3011 Telephone Road, Houston, Texas, 77023, followed by remains internment at three o'clock Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas, 77023. Those who wish to join the family for dinner or dessert can meet afterward at Luby's Cafeteria, 5335 Gulf Freeway, Houston, Texas, 77023.
