Betty Knowles

January 6, 1939 — July 17, 2016

Betty Padfield Knowles was born in Des Moines Iowa in January, 1939 to Ruth and Willard Clair (Pad) Padfield. Betty moved with her family to Houston when she was a young child, and she grew up in the Montrose area of Houston on Sul Ross Street. Betty was the only sister of three brothers, Don, Bob and Bill Padfield. She was married to William (Bill) Turner Knowles on September 5, 1958. Betty and Bill had three sons and their spouses became her daughters too: David and Linda, Steve and Vicki, and Mike and Lori Knowles. Betty was a grandmother to seven grandchildren, Laura, Mark, Allison, John, Ryan, Kent and Demetrious Knowles. She was the great grandmother to Isla Allison and Lincoln Samuel Vince, children of Laura and Mike Vince. Betty spent her adult years as a housewife, mother and grandmother. She humbly provided her family and friends with countless hours of selfless service and was a true role model to her children and grandchildren. A few of her key activities included the Westchester Garden Club, Memorial Drive United Methodist Church Mission Stitchers, Aggie Moms and Memorial Area Ministries. She dedicated many years of service to these community organizations and served in numerous leadership positions. Betty was an avid gardener and many sought out her advice on local plant and gardening topics. She became a skilled and quick seamstress. Her work included quilts, clothing, needlework, crochet and knitting. Services will be held at the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church on July 27 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
