Billy Thornton

May 6, 1940 — June 26, 2019

Billy Eugene Thornton went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 26, 2019. He was born on May 6, 1940 in Hahira, Georgia. Billy moved to Houston, Texas as a boy and attended Lamar High School. After graduation he joined the United States Navy in March 1959 to serve his country where he sailed the open seas as a signalman on the USS Constant.

Soon after he got out of the Navy in 1961, Billy was riding an elevator in downtown Houston and happened to notice the beautiful brunette elevator attendant with a great smile. Her name was Josie Quiroz and she became the love of his life.

He started his career in the financial business and became a real estate broker in the 1970s which led him to become a mortgage broker in the 1980s. He continued to do both until his retirement.

One of his biggest passions for over 30 years was his involvement in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he served on the Group Ticket Sales Committee. This legacy has continued for three generations and is still active today.

Billy is preceded in death by his father Eugene Thornton, his mother, Margaret Dromgoole, his brother, Kim Eric Dromgoole, and his granddaughter Kelly Thornton.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Josephine Thornton, his son, Scott Thornton and fiancee Kelly Brighi, daughter, Vicki Thornton-Wiley and husband Robert Wiley, and son, Charles Thornton and wife Karen Thornton. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Halie Dittemore, Jonathon Rivas, Kaycee Thornton, Ashley Wall, Evan Thornton, and Brent Thornton, great grandchildren, Graycen Rivas and Carter Hilton, sister Janice Hicks and husband Clyde, sister Karla Stimach and husband Edward.
