Brett Bryan

Brett Robert Bryan, of Houston Texas, died suddenly at his home on December 30th 2017. He spent his last days celebrating birthdays and holidays with family and friends. Brett was a US Navy veteran, JO2 Photojournalist in The Gulf War. His photo contributions and byline are numerous within the Navy's All Hands monthly. His service was recognized with bronze stars and medals of Commendation and Achievement for his time overseas. He attended the University of Houston and spent many years continuing his education. Among many things he obtained an education to teach English as a second language. He was an ordained minister who married several of his friends and loved ones. He was a culinary genius who continually surprised many with his talents. Reading was his passion and he was serious about his poetry and his books. He will be remembered for his love of knowledge, humor, bad puns, mastery of musical choices, love of those sweater vests, great suits and his blue suede shoes, culinary talents and his work within the Houston restaurant and bar business. Brett was dearly loved by his friends and family. He was a raconteur, jester, bon vivant, a reveler and mascot to his family. Brett was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Nell Bryan and father, Jack Robert Bryan. He is survived by his brother George Earl Sparks (Niki Sparks); his sisters Michaelan Ledger (Stephanie Dye) and Jaclan Maxwell (Rick Maxwell); his niece Brandi Carlisle (Kevin Stafford); nephews Michael Carlisle (Stacy Alva) Ben Sparks (Theresa Sparks) and Bryan Sparks (Stephanie Sparks); grand-nieces Amaris and Trinity and grand-nephews Caden Carlisle; Logan and Jake Sparks; his beloved friend and neighbor Charlie Wright (brother from another Mother) and long-time colleague and friend Johnathan James (JJ) and so many others that he dearly loved. Brett's ‘celebration of life' will be held at 2PM on Saturday January 6th at The Grand Prize (1010 Banks St., Houston, TX 77006). A Veterans Honor Service is to be held at Houston Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
