Calvin Maurice Harber was born in the tiny west Texas town of Caps on February 5, 1928, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on November 29, 2016. He was the only son of Edgar Thomas Harber and Talka Florence Sumrall Harber. Preceding him in death and waiting to welcome him home were his parents and older sister, Edie Faye. Left to mourn his loss and celebrate his memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Caroline; daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Larry Bowen; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Tim Siegel; granddaughter and husband, Lindsey and Clint Swonke; sister, Talka Carlisle; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Phil Raughton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Maurice attended McMurray College in Abilene, Texas, Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas, and The University of Texas in Austin. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as an MP at the young age of 17. After his honorable discharge, he enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and served on the hospital ship, USS Repose. Maurice was an extremely ethical man who worked hard all his life and had a long career in the oil & gas industry. His job took him and his family all over the United States, Canada and the Middle East. He had a quick wit, was a dedicated family man, and was well respected by his colleagues. Maurice was an honest man and fair with everyone he met. He enjoyed fishing and golf but his greatest love was for "his girls." Services are pending and will be held at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Special thanks to his caregivers, LaKesha, Anita, Kim W. and Kim A. Thank you for your care and respect you gave to Maurice in his final days.
