Christian Phillipa (1942-2021)
Christian Phillips passed away on July 3, 2021 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 7, 1942, the second child of Alexander Phillips and Helen Tallios Phillips, Christian was a gifted autodidact. He pursued and mastered many interests: He was a beekeeper, a master gardener, a musician, a restauranteur, a HAM radio operator, and a videographer. In later years, his many health issues curtailed his interests, but he never lost his enthusiasm for learning and his gift for storytelling.
For the past 30-plus years, Christian lived in Houston where he ran a downtown coffee shop, Oros Cafe, for some years. Those who knew Christian remember him for his unfailing sense of humor, his grasp of current events, his incomparable gifts of honey and organically grown, perfect vegetables, and, last but not least, his love for the motorized scooter that made the last six months of his life an adventure.
Christian is survived by his sisters, Kathryn Vorenberg and Joanne Tenenbaum, and by four nieces and two nephews.
