Claytie Harvie

Mattie Claytie Fultz ("Pat") Harvie died peacefully on June 6, 2018, at Sunrise Senior Living community in Katy, Texas. She was 97 years old, and surrounded in her last days by family and caretakers. Mattie Claytie Fultz was born on August 9, 1920 in Beech Grove, Tennessee to Samuel Clinton Fults and Mattie Belle Todd, the 7th of 10 children. Her family lived in a small cabin on top of a hill in the beautiful countryside of central Tennessee. In her late teens, Pat left Tennessee for New York City, where she worked in a famous beauty salon. It was during this time, during WWII, that she made a fateful trip to visit her oldest sister, Lucille, in Covington, Kentucky. It was on that journey that she met the man to whom she would be married for 60 years. Pat was a loving and supportive wife, mother and homemaker. She was very artistic, painted, wrote stories and knitted beautiful afghans. Pat was always involved in her children's school and outside activities. She was an active member for many years at Heights Presbyterian Church, and in later years at Berachah Church in Houston, helping her husband build and run Berachah's tape ministry. In Galveston, where Bud and Pat had built a beach home, Pat and Bud helped establish a church on West Galveston Island. Pat made many lasting friendships throughout her life, and devoutly loved her family in Tennessee, often saying they were the finest folks you could ever meet. Pat is preceded in death by her husband W. L. "Bud" Harvie, and eight of her siblings, Waufield Fultz, Lucille Williams, Woodfin Fultz, Robert Fultz, Virginia Stacey, Sam Fultz, Jr., John Fultz and Evans Fultz. She is survived by her sister, Kitty Margaret Kelly of Shelbyville, Tennessee, her son Mark Henry Harvie and wife June Hightower Harvie, her daughter Candice Belle Herzing and husband Steve Herzing, and granddaughter Natalie Rose Ann Herzing, of Houston, Texas. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Senior Living and A-Med Home Health for their tender care of Pat in her final days. Pat Harvie will be interred at Houston National Cemetery with her beloved Bud, together forever. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.
