David Loren Smith, 63, peacefully passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at his home near Brookshire, Texas. "Loren" was born in Oklahoma City, OK on July 21, 1955 to Wayman W. Smith, Jr. and Jo Beth Huff Smith. He grew up and attended school in New Orleans, Louisiana, then attended High School in Covington, LA. Loren served our country in the US Navy from 1973 - 1977 and then served a 2 year reserve duty service. From the Navy training he went on to work in the electrical / oilfield industry as an Electrical Engineer and E&I Lead Inspector for Shell Oil Company and numerous other large oil companies that took him all over the world. Here is what one his friends that worked for years with him wanted to add: David Loren Smith was part of a team at Royal Dutch Shell that built and started the offshore installations that were at the heart of the development of the American Deepwater Oil and Gas industry and his contribution to that effort is unquestioned throughout the Industry. His legacy is living and breathing twenty-four hours a day, every day, in the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Africa, in the oilfields of West Texas and anywhere else that the young men who were lucky enough to work with him migrated after receiving and his impact on them will be felt for decades after his death. Like many unsung heroes in society today, many of Loren's most significant accomplishments are not the things that happened because he was there, but the things that didn't happen, because he was there. Equipment worth tens or more likely hundreds of millions of dollars that didn't burn up, injuries and pain that people didn't have to endure and lives that didn't end before their time, because Loren was there to make sure that the mistakes that lead to those events, didn't happen. The knowledge and experience that he shared will continue to prevent damage and minimize injuries for people who never knew him, long after he's gone.....Coworker and Friend, Zeb Harris Loren was currently working for Team Management at the time of his death. He had just completed a two year project for Noble Energy in Pecos, TX. He loved his work. Loren is survived by his sisters, Billie Smith Brown, Valerie Smith Williams and JoBeth Smith and their spouses, his nieces, Deana Brown Mitchell, Skye Monique Smith and nephew, Gary Brown Jr. and a huge circle of friends and co-workers. The family invites you to join us for a memorial service to celebrate his life on January 19, 2018, 2pm at The First Baptist Church of Pattison located at 6082 Hwy 359 North, Pattison, TX 77423.
