David Vorpahl

David King Vorpahl, age 64, of Groves, Texas, went to be with Our Lord on Oct. 27, 2016. He was the son of A.H. "Lucky" and Norma Tschirhart Vorpahl of San Antonio. King was preceded in death by his father, and is survived by his wife, Jill Stevenson Vorpahl, brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug and Rosemary Vorpahl of Katy, Texas, Donnie and Sallye Vorpahl of San Antonio, Texas; sisters, Shannon Vorpahl of San Antonio, Texas, Geri Vorpahl Williams of San Antonio, Texas, and Peggy Vorpahl Husky and Ronnie Husky of Spring, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, and seven great-nephews. David King Vorpahl was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, the second child, and first son, of a family of six children. He was named after his father's dear and close friend, Dr. E. King Gill, the original 12th Man of Texas A&M. After the family moved to San Antonio in 1956, he attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, graduated from Antonian High School in 1970, then graduated from Texas A&M with a Business Administration degree in 1974. He went on to be a Luby's Cafeteria manager for 25 years in several locations before he landed in Port Arthur and called it home for the last 30+ years. He had many close friends there, who have been especially helpful during this last year. His joys were fishing, golfing, and gardening, especially growing his tomatoes; and he loved his dogs. Services will be on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 2601 Spring Stuebner Rd., Spring, Texas, 77389, 281.353.9774, to include a Rosary at 10:00am, Mass of Celebration at 10:30am, followed by Visitation and a Luncheon at 11:30am in the Church Hall. Message from the Family: On the morning of October 27th at 5:00 a.m., King was surrounded by Peggy, Ronnie and a Care Giver who prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet as he breathed his last breath. The night before, King was able to FaceTime with his mother in San Antonio (through Donnie and Peggy), so she was able to see him and tell him again that she loved him and to give Lucky a hug for her. Through God's mercy, King was never in any pain and he passed peacefully. Our family would like to thank all the friends and relatives who have been praying for him and our family. A special blessing and prayers of thanksgiving go out to Peggy and Ronnie for taking him in to their home and tirelessly caring for him 24/7 for 9 months. King was given an opportunity to fully redeem himself with Christ during this time and he fully took advantage of this blessing. He was also able to bond our Vorpahl family like never before, as we all came together in some capacity to help out with his care and visit with him and each other. We are all fine knowing King was ready and was at Peace. Arrangements are now available, and you are invited to join us in celebrating his life. A special thank you goes out to All Around Home Health for their gentle care of King towards the end of his life, especially when he wasn't the best patient, and to Rose of Texas Hospice for their support getting the family through all the daily details that come with dealing with a family member diagnosed with a brain tumor and their subsequent death from that disease.
