Debra Kay

March 2, 1958 — August 19, 2016

Kay Sharp, or Debra Kay Sharp, passed away on August 19, 2016 in Houston, TX at 58 years old. Kay was born March 2, 1958 in Abilene, Texas. She is proceeded in death by her Mother, Loveta Dell Ewing Sharp, Father Tony Sharp, and one brother Tommy Joe Martin. Survivors include two sisters, Barbara Moyers of Midland and Linda Walker (Tommy) of Arlington. Four brothers, Jim Martin (Wendy) of Wyoming, Ricky Martin of Lubbock, Texas, Eugene Sharp (Betty) of Burkburnett and Michael Sharp (Hui Kuk) of North Carolina, Sister-in-law Betsy Martin of Granbury, 11 nephews and 6 nieces, along with many loving friends in Houston, Texas. Kay loved to read books and visit the beaches of Florida annually. She had a generous nature and supported many charities including United Way of Greater Houston and Operation Warm. She loved her work as an administrative assistant and dedicated 34 years to her employer, National Oilwell Varco. Her career began as a Store Clerk on February 8, 1982 in Odessa, TX working with legacy NOV M/D Totco employees such as Hugh Weathersby, Cindy Milam, Ed Denning and Larry Esparza. It was not long before it seemed everyone in the Odessa office worked for Kay! She was definitely a take-charge individual. Later she relocated to Houston at Larry's request; he knew he could trust and depend on Kay to make sure every piece of equipment on every rig was invoiced. Over the next 15 years she worked with Larry Esparza, Cliff Price and Lynn Spikes. In 2002 DyAnna Hancock recognized Kay's leadership and take-charge attitude and offered her a job with Corporate, managing several NOV properties, vehicles and contractors. Again she moved right into the group and made things happen. Always faithful, never once did she forget where she came from or those she worked with in Odessa. In 2007 Kay returned to M/D Totco as the Administrative Assistant to Cliff Price for North American Operations. Her knowledge of the business systems, products and operations was a vital element to the success and the growth experienced over the following years. In 2009 she was promoted to Executive Assistant of Global Operations while remaining engaged in several facility projects and providing support and management of multiple vendor accounts. Over the past 34 years Kay's hard work and dedication helped ensure the company's success. Her willingness to help others, even when not in her job description or her responsibility, made NOV a much better place to work for everyone. Her wit, expertise and depth of knowledge as an assistant will be greatly missed.
