Don was born on June 12, 1957, a native of Jamaica, New York. He attended the public school system. Later he attended the New York restaurant school where he received his culinary degree.
Don was born to loving parents Harold Gerald Smyer and Gloria Lala Bowie Smyer who proceeded him in death and stepmother, Mary Lee Moses Smyer, two brothers Harold Gerald Smyer Jr, and William Lee Smyer, one sister Gloria Dean Smyer who all proceeded him in death.
Don leaves to mourn his son Donell Ian Smyer, (Teamptrails), his four grandchildren Cameron, Caleb, Ca’Mya and Ca’Mora Smyer of Houston, Texas. His loving wife Edith Freeman Smyer of Houston, Texas. One sister Barbara Smyer of Astoria, New York, and a special niece, Harriet Lee Young(Hakim) of Jamaica, New York. A host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, family & friends.
Don worked as an executive Chef in some of the finest restaurants in NYC, SC, and Texas. He retired in 2017. He was an extraordinary Chef.
Don cherished his family day in and day out! He was a loving and caring Husband and the best Father to his son. Never missed a beat!! He was also the Best Papa to his four beautiful grandchildren.
Don was blessed to a loving family and his dedication to them was recognized, respected and honored.
Don was deemed the life of the party!! Never without expressing his second passion, which was sharing a good joke.
