Douglas Gene Elliot

June 3, 1941 – February 6, 2021

Douglas Gene Elliot was born June 3, 1941 in Medford, Oregon to Eleanor Sheets Elliot and Don Joseph Elliot.  His Southern Oregon upbringing instilled in him a love for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors – things he enjoyed his entire life. Doug attended Medford High School and then Oregon State University, graduating with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1964.

After graduation, he took a job in the oil industry and relocated to Houston, Texas. He eventually went back to school and earned his MS and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from University of Houston.

Devoted to the design, technological development, and direction of industrial research, Doug worked over 40 years in the oil and gas industry. Doug started his career with McDermott Hudson Engineering in the early 1970s following a post-doctoral research assignment at Rice University. At Rice, he developed an interest in oil and gas thermophysical properties research and its application.

Doug was Vice President of Oil and Gas with Davy McKee International. He then became President, COO and cofounder (with Bechtel Corporation) of IPSI LLC, a company that developed oil- and gas-producing technology and that provided conceptual design services.

Doug authored or coauthored more than 65 technical publications and 12 patents. Doug served as a member of the Gas Processors Association (GPA) Research Steering Committee and as Chairman of the GPSA Data Book Committee on Physical Properties. Doug also served as Chairman of the South Texas Section, Director of the Fuels and Petrochemical Division of the AIChE, and member of the PETEX Advisory Board. Doug was a Bechtel Fellow and a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Doug is survived by his wife Carmen; daughter Jennifer (Chris) Newman; brother Robert (Daryl) Elliot, sister Donna (Jeff) Anderson; step sons Steven (Laura) Bates, Michael Castillo, and Jonathan Ziobrowsky; grandchildren Clare Bates, Celia Bates, Major Castillo, Grayson Castillo, and Wesley Newman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Eleanor, and his brother Gregory Elliot.
