Elwood Eugene Fickinger, 89, known to his family and friends as "Fick", passed away on January 14, 2015 from cancer in Katy, TX. He was born on July 25, 1925 in Nevada, Missouri, and raised in Oklahoma by his parents, Donald E. and Letha Fickinger. He graduated from Oklahoma State University where he studied Geophysics and was a charter member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Upon graduation he went to work for Conoco and would later move to Gutherie, Oklahoma where he met the love of his life, Edith Lahoma Crow. Early in their marriage they moved from town to town until they finally settled in Midland, Texas where they raised their two children Gary and Lisa. While in Midland, he was an active member of the Permian Basin Geophysical Society where he held the position of President. In 1974, he was transferred to Houston, Texas as Director of Operations covering parts of the southern eight states. In 1977 after 29 years he elected to take early retirement and moved to Conroe, Texas. Fick is survived by his best friend and wife of 63 years Edith Lahoma Fickinger of Katy, Texas, a brother Dale E. Fickinger (wife Betty) of Victoria, B.C., a son Gary E. Fickinger (wife Diana) of Katy, Texas and daughter Lisa F. Dick (husband Jim) of Hitchcock, Texas. His sister Leah Simmons, predeceased him. Fick's grandchildren are Greg E. Fickinger, Kristina Fickinger Toole, Jamie Suzanne Dick and Kelly Elizabeth Dick. His great grandchildren are Mason Fickinger and Max and Paige Toole. He loved fishing, boating and golfing and with his wife Lahoma, they enjoyed doing genealogy and traveling the United States and Europe. Fick's family loved him dearly and will miss his loyalty, steadfast support, encouragement, wisdom, strength, determination, love and kindness. At a later date, the family will gather for a private celebration of his life. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society or Down's Syndrome Association of Houston (DSAH) in his name, E. E. Fickinger.
