On July 18, 2023, Hugh Victor (Vic) Jones Jr. passed away from complications with lung cancer and pneumonia. Hugh was eighty-one years old.
Hugh was born in Barberton, Ohio to parents, Hugh V. and Billye Jones, who later moved to Texas.
Hugh graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS in 1960 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a star defensive guard on the Mustang football team. He was involved in the Rocket and Hayne club along with being on the Mustang track team. Hugh joined the U.S. Air Force and had his main duty in Great Falls, Montana as a part of the Minute Man Missile effort. He received an Honorable Discharge on May 27,1968.
Hugh began his college education at the University of Oklahoma and then moved to Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (Math & Science major) from the University of Houston and did graduate work at the Universities of Houston and Rice.
He worked in the field of computer science and later owned a computer company. In his later years, Hugh was co-founder and a member of the board of directors of Community Action Task Force. The web site “GoTeams.org” describes all the activities the task force is involved in for the community in Katy,Texas and others. Recently he lived with his friend and caregiver, Wayne Bergerson and family.
Hugh loved the piano and classical music including Aram Khachaturian’s-Sabre Dance (a ballet in1942 with dancers using sabre’s), Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - Swan Lake (a ballet), and the classical music by Sergei Rachmaninoff, among others. Hugh also loved the mountains and being out in nature, including the Gulf Coast beaches watching the waves roll in.
He was an excellent inspiration to his younger brothers due to his courage and work ethic.
Hugh is survived by one child, Monica Aiello and grand children Anise Aiello and Quinn Aiello and his four siblings: Vada Alice Woodall, Guy Arnold Jones (sister-in law Debra Anne Jones), Taylor Moore Jones (sister-in-law Delia Jones), Dennis Wayne Jones (& spouse Mickey Mitchell), and a large extended family.
Hugh is preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, David Michael Jones.
Hugh will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron, Texas. There will be a small family remembrance gathering there in the Fall.
