Janet (known lovingly as Aunto to many) went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2017 after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born Februaury 7, 1941 to Samuel Otis Woodsmall and Frances Follet. Sadly, Frances died days after giving birth. Her Aunt Grace Brockington helped raise her until Otis married Josephine Stafford. They moved to Almeda, TX where Josphine had a greenhouse. This is where Janet's love for flowers began. She was a talented Floral Designer and singer. Her designs were featured in numerous magazines. Working in the floral craft she was introduced by a local decorator to his employee George Hermann Gutz. It must have been love at first sight because George asked her to marry him on their second date. She made him wait, but they eventually married April 7, 1962. Together they shared a love of the outdoors, fishing and camping at the lake or the beach. She was involved in her church. She taught Sunday School and was the director of Vacation Bible School for many years. This created summer programs that brought together the different cultures of the neighborhood at the time. In her later years she loved sitting on her front porch visiting with all of her neighbors. She always had a sweet treat to share. She made Easter baskets for each one of them every year. She is survived by her only daughter Melanie Mai Gutz and her four-legged fur grandbabies. Join us for a Celebration of Life Saturday February 3, 2018 at 3pm.
