Jimmy Dwayne Tatum

April 12, 1941 — July 5, 2024

Our father, Jimmy (Jim) Dwayne Tatum, 83, of Houston, Texas passed away unexpectedly on July 5, 2024.

Jimmy was born on April 12, 1941 to Frank and Sylvia Tatum in Timpson, Texas and was raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1959 and attended college at Sam Houston State University.

Jim served our Country in the Vietnam War in the 1960’s. While away serving our country he fell in love with photography. Upon returning from the war, Jim began a career in Sales.

Jim was passionate about the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved traveling often to Mexico in his younger years. He was happiest when he was at the bay house in “Sunny” San Leon, Texas where he enjoyed boating, fishing and cooking at home. Jim was known for his amazing-B-B-Q and beans! He was always the life of the party, was loved by all, knowledgeable about many things and dearly loved his rescue dog, Hunter.

While our hearts mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering. He will be forever missed.

Preceded in death by his Mother, Sylvia Marie Tatum; Father, Frank Tatum; Sister, Diana Lynn Tatum; and beloved dog Hunter. Jim leaves behind his Spouse, Kay Lyon; Twin Daughters, Laurie Dohl Tatum and Lana Dawn Tatum Caparelli; Sister, Charlotte Ann Hayes; and Niece, Melissa Kay Hebbel. He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and other nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
