Johnny Maldonado Salinas was born in Elmendorf, Texas on May 4, 1934 to Eulogio Salinas and Juanita Maldonado Salinas. Johnny graduated from Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, Texas and served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. He married Norma Martinez Salinas in 1961 and they moved to Washington, DC to work for the Army Map Service in 1964. They later moved to Houston, Texas in 1966 to work for NASA where they have lived for 55 years raising their three children. Johnny started the Photo Laboratory at NASA where he was responsible for developing the photos for all the missions into space. He loved his work very much and it brought him great pride to be a part of a monumental program in history. He was especially proud to have been the one to develop and see the first images from the mission to the moon. He retired in 1994 from NASA.
Johnny loved his family very much and enjoyed being involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for traveling the world and was able to visit many destinations with his wife.
Johnny is preceded by his parents, brother Lloyd Salinas, sisters Belia King, Kate Garza, Toni Morales, and Rose Montana. He is survived by his loving wife Norma and his three children and their spouses, John Salinas (Stephanie), Robert Salinas (Ginnie), and Lillian Salinas (Mike). His grandchildren, John Alfred, Nina, Ginette, Alex, Mary Elizabeth, Rebecca and Sula. He also had many nephews and nieces.
