Joyce Sims Gomez, 75 years old, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 after a year's battle with cancer. Joyce was born in New Orleans, Louisiana where she attended Booker T. Washington High School and worked as a Nursing Assistant at Ochsner Hospital and Home Health Services. Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she became a resident of Houston, Texas.
She was baptized and accepted Christ as her savior at the age of twelve. Joyce was proceeded in death by her parents Ernest Lee Sims and Eunice Johnson Everage and William Everage, husbands Alfred Bonner Sr. and Warren Chester Gomez Sr., her brother William Everage and sister Patricia Ann Everage Cyres, her aunt Edna Mae Johnson Osborne, Sister in Laws Eula Bee Gomez Lewis, Gladiola Gomez Dixon and Mazie Gomez Nicholas; two Brothers - in-law Sterling and Irvin Gomez, and a niece Andrea Cyres Brown.
She is survived by her sister Phyllis Marie Everage of Baton Rouge, LA, her children: two daughters: Antoinetta S. Lancslin of Lithonia, GA, and Cassandra M. Bromfield of Geismar, LA (Richard), three sons Alfred Bonner III and Anthony C. Bonner (Valerie) of Houston Texas, and Terrence W. Gomez (Tyonia) of Pearland, TX, two step sons Warren C. Gomez Jr. (Alice) of Miami, FL and Wayne D. Delaney (Venus Oliver) of the Philippines, ten grandchildren: Herbert B. Lancslin of Lithonia, GA, Quianna R. Wilson (Pierre) of Little Elm, Texas, Anthony C. Bonner Jr. (New Orleans), Staci Metts (Brad) of Slidell, LA, Tracy McElveen of Georgia, Kaylynn, Lyndsey and Ryan Bromfield of Geismar, LA, Tynan Walker Gomez and Tyjae Scales Gomez of Pearland, TX. and seven great-grand children: Jelani A. Lancslin, Pierre and Khari Wilson, Anthony M. Bonner, Deon, Alexcia, and Emili Metts, one brother in law John Gomez (Audrey) of Syracuse, NY, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and cherished friends: Betty Palmer, Linda Eugene, Charlie Robertson and John Barros. She enjoyed family time, cooking for family and friends and winning.
She will be greatly missed here on this earth but her impressions of love will remain in our hearts forever. Viewing will be held at The Church at Bethel's Family, 12660 Sandpiper Drive, Houston, TX 77035 at 9:00 am to 11:00 am and Religious Services on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11:00 am. There will be a Memorial Service held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 12:30 pm at Christian Unity Baptist Church, 1700 Conti Street, New Orleans, LA. Columbarium will be at St. Roch Cemetery in New Orleans, LA.
