Joyce Powers Sweeton December 12, 1934 - June 15, 2012 Joyce Powers Sweeton passed away on June 15, 2012 after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. Joyce was born in Coleman, Texas to L. Groce and Helen Stafford Powers of Doole, Texas. She grew up in Brady, Texas and later moved to Houston. She married Buell E. Sweeton, Jr. in 1968 in a ceremony at Chapelwood UMC, officiated by Dr. Kelly Williams. She worked for Southwest Industries, Div. Ingersoll-Rand Company from 1964 until 1978. She made many friends there that she continued to keep in touch with. After many years with Skytop-Brewster, she started with Houston, Lighting and Power holding many positions before retiring from HL&P in 1995. Joyce was a faithful member of Chapelwood UMC for over 40 years and attended the 8:25 service where she proudly watched two of her grandchildren through years of the Wesley Choir. She and Junie sat on the same pew every Sunday during the 40 years. Joyce and her beloved Buell (Junie) shared a relationship to which most merely aspire. She was supremely devoted to the love of her life and in the truest sense, the two were one. He never lacked for the best she could afford and insisted that she was there to make him feel pampered. Joyce had high expectations for those around her and held them to a very high standard - the same one to which she held herself. Because she appreciated the finer things in life, dinner guests at her table ate with silver from China, drank from crystal, and linen napkins. She delighted in the role of hostess and was equally skilled in the kitchen. Her meals were always exceptional. Most of all, she was known to enjoy a glass of wine and good conversation surrounded by her family and lifelong friends. Joyce is survived by her husband of 44 years, Buell E. Sweeton, daughters by marriage Melinda Sweeton McIntire, her husband Mike; by Melissa Sweeton Thorne and her husband Bill; by Marsha Sweeton Baxmann; by grandchildren Michael McIntire, Michelle McIntire, Douglas Buell Gordon, Lindsey Gordon, Michelle Baxmann, Matthew Baxmann, Lee Sweeton Mayfield, husband Chris, Kathryn Sweeton Self, husband Ray; 9 great grand children Mackenzie Baxmann, Christian Guerrero, Brady Baxmann, Allison McIntire, Tyler, Bobbie & Tori Bloom and Clif & Keenum Self, and many lifelong friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 4 pm in the Chapel of Chapelwood UMC, 11140 Greenbay, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, Joyce requested remembrances be in the form of donations to Chapelwood UMC Foundation, at Chapelwood.org. GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED AND A CURE WAS NOT TO BE SO HE PUT HIS ARMS AROUND YOU AND WHISPERED, "COME WITH ME". A HEART OF GOLD STOPPED BEATING HER SPIRIT SOARED ABOVE THE LAND AND AT THE DOOR OF HEAVEN HER FATHER TOOK HER HAND.
