Judith Linnea Emerson Durst
February 6, 1927 - September 12, 2018
Our beloved mother went to be with the Lord on Tuesday. She was born in Akron, Ohio to John and Edith Emerson. She was the 4th of 6 children. As my brother, Ric put it: Our mother was a child of God, a "svensk flicka" (a Swedish girl), hook sorter (Pfluggers hired a lot of our grandparents' family and this was her first job), student of the Bible, a wife, mother, missionary, teacher, grandmother and great-grandmother and faithful servant of God.
Judith had Alzheimer's for over 14 years. She seems to have been a high functioning sufferer of this disease. We had the time to love her and care for her. Sometimes it is hard to remember that she had a life before and that she invested in eternity with over 30 years as a missionary with her husband - our father in Mali West Africa. Their legacy, her legacy is those years in Africa, and the example she was to us in the life she lived every day.
Judith is survived by her children, Bruce, Ric (Minou) and Linda; grandson Jonathan (Lauren) Durst and great-grandsons Ander, Eliah, Logan and Wyatt; sister Joan Walker. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth and son Robert.
A private family service will be held at the gravesite when my mom is laid to rest next to her husband. We want to thank Eucharia for her loving care and the hospice care from the personnel of Comfort Hospice.
