Juen Whitworth

June 24, 1934 — September 9, 2020

Juen Hephzibah Evans Whitworth (86) passed away peacefully at home in Houston, Texas, on September 9, 2020. Juen was born on June 24, 1934, in Malad, Idaho, to Edward S. and Geneva Fern (Jensen) Evans. She graduated from Inkom High School in Inkom, Idaho, and married Darrell Clyde Whitworth "the first paycheck out of high school" on August 8. 1952 in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were married for 67 years and together raised four sons-Russell (Cheri) Whitworth, Michael (Carol) Whitworth, Douglas (Christina) Whitworth, David (Jennifer) Whitworth, and two daughters---Melanie (John) Chapman and Leisha (Tom) Shanklin. Together they created a family legacy of 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Being a wife and mother was her crowning achievement in this life.

Juen graduated from secretarial school as a young woman and held many secretarial positions throughout her life to help support her family. She worked for lawyers, oil companies, major Universities, and her proudest accomplishment-working for the Texas Legislative Council in the Capitol Building in Austin, Texas, during the Governor George Bush era. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many positions in the church and served two service missions with her husband. They also worked together in both the San Antonio and Houston temples.

Despite being raised in a rural town during the Depression Era, Juen was always meticulous in dress and style. She loved beautiful things, especially "pretty dishes" and Native American turquoise and silver jewelry. She was a collector of crystal tchotchkes, trunks, and antique furnishings throughout her life. She especially enjoyed shopping tag sales and thrift stores for "treasures" and was always able to make a "silk purse out of sow's ear." Outgoing and social with a great sense of humor, there was always a new family or friend invited to her dinner table. She was happiest in her role as hostess for large family gatherings.

Juen was preceded in death by her eternal sweetheart, Darrell Clyde Whitworth, and by her parents Edward S. Evans and Geneva Fern (Jensen) Evans. Also, four of her eight siblings: Dean Evans, Lois Fenwick, Vera Briscoe, and Charles S. Evans. Funeral service will be held on September 21, 2020, at Houston National Cemetery at 1:00 PM. A private viewing for family and close friends will be at 10:00 AM before the funeral service at Integrity Funeral Care 3915 Dacoma Street Houston TX, 77092.
