Katy Mrs.

September 15, 1961 — May 13, 2014

On Sept 15, 1961, a daughter, Katy Jean Szkody, was born to JoAnne Williams Szkody and Edward Szkody in Houston, Texas. She was their only daughter and little sister to four brothers; Albert, Edward, Bruce and Gene. The Family moved from Houston to Saline, MI where Katy attended Elementary School. They returned to Texas where Katy graduated from High School and went on to Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. She married Wade Alan Wilkinson and they brought into this world two children; daughter, Amanda and son, Clayton. Katy's Master's Degree in Physical Therapy, and her joy in working with children, landed her at Texas Children's Hospital. She loved her work and her large second family of coworkers and patients. This love was reciprocated and Katy was recently honored for 30 years of continued service at Texas Children's Hospital. Katy also worked with River Kids, providing Home Healthcare for children. In her love for her family, Katy always found a way to make things happen. She served on the Volunteer Board for Amanda and Clayton's school. She arranged her time off from work to allow her to be involved in School activities. Katy was an avid runner who loved reading and all of nature. Family time away from Houston took them snorkeling in Cozumel, hiking and skiing in Colorado, visiting all of nature's wonders in Yellowstone or Rocky Mountain National Parks, and exploring Costa Rica. She had a special love of all animals. So much so, that they humorously called their home The Zoo. Katy endured a valiant struggle with ALS. Her devoted husband and children lovingly cared for her through this time in what was nothing less than an inspiration to all of those around them. Katy's many friends visited and comforted her during these times. Katy will be deeply missed and always remembered. A memorial service celebrating Katy will be begin at 5:30 pm on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, Sugar Land, 502 Eldridge Road, Sugar Land, TX 77478, with a reception immediately following at the church. In lieu of traditional remembrances, Katy requested with gratitude that contributions in memory of her be directed to ALS at http://www.alsa.org/ and Click on Donate.
