Lakathryne Warner

May 6, 1950 — January 24, 2017

"Then Jonathan said to David, "Tomorrow is the New Moon; and you will be missed, because your seat will be empty." I Samuel 20:18 LaKathryne Tate Warner (aka Lai, Kat, Kathryne, and Warner) was born on May 6, 1950 to Lawrence C. Tate and Kathryne Excell Townsend Tate in Milwaukee, WI. Together they raised LaKathryne to be a warm, responsible, and caring young lady. She grew up in a loving Christian home where education and hard work were stressed as a means of attaining life's goals. LaKathryne attended Milwaukee Public Schools, graduating from Riverside High School in 1968. She became an accomplished bass player in the school orchestra and mastered the piano as well. Her father often remarked that "the bass was larger than she was!" After high school, LaKathryne enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh before transferring to Texas Southern University in Houston where she received a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Communications. Later she was awarded a Master's Degree in Public Administration. It was in Houston that Lai met and married Eddie Warner and their daughter Amore was born. LaKathryne's love for music led to a long and successful career in the music industry. In 1978 she started at Radio Station KLOL in Houston as Traffic Director and in 1984 began a 20-year career (1984-2004) at Time Warner/WEA Corp-Warner Brothers, Elektra, Atlantic Records. At WEA, LaKathryne traveled across the country setting up marketing campaigns for the musical artists that her company represented. She was front and center at concerts and autograph signings, meeting some of the biggest names in the music industry. She was recognized three times as Southwest Regional Sales Representative of the Year (1990, 1995, 1999) and was also acknowledged for Excellency and Diplomacy in Customer Service in 2000. After leaving the music business, LaKathryne switched careers in 2007 and became a Travel Agent helping her clients with all of their local and international travel arrangements. In recent years, her health began to fail as she suffered a series of strokes. She was eventually left with a severe brain injury and had more than her share of physical and mental pain. LaKathryne was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one daughter, Amore' (Anthony) Hess; one granddaughter, Evelynne Hess; and many friends who loved her and will dearly miss her.
