Born James Devon McPherson on September 28, 1936 in Birmingham, Alabama, Lee was adopted by his parents, Scedeilee May Marques Jacobs and Roland Evans Jacobs and was named after his parents as Lee Evans Jacobs. Lee passed away on June 7, 2016. He was adopted in Montgomery County and raised in Mobile, Alabama. His mother, Lee May, was a registered nurse and his father, known as Red, was an engineer in the Merchant Marines and was often at sea. Lee attended the military school UMS Wright from first through twelfth grade. He graduated in 1954 and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville graduating in 1958 with a BS in Business. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and the Air Force ROTC program. Upon graduation he was sworn in as a Second Lieutenant in the USAF. He served until his honorable discharge in August of 1961. He was joined in marriage to Nancy Dale Loren of Alamogordo, NM in 1961. His first child, Lee Ann was born in Fort Worth, TX. Nancy suffered an aneurysm in Odessa, TX and died in the fall of 1964. Lee was married to Sandra Kay Tripp on October 23, 1965 in Odessa, TX. His second child Debra Kay and third child Jeffrey Evans were born in Fort Worth, TX in the following years. After a brief career in insurance, Lee found his true calling and lifelong friends in the Oil and Gas business as a pipe buyer. He spent many years working his way across Texas while employed by a variety of big and small companies including Midcontinent Supply, Champlain Petroleum, Lear Petroleum, The Coastal Corporation and El Paso. A humble and caring man, Lee loved to serve his fellow man as a volunteer. He attended Bible Study Fellowship for five years and served as a teacher for the Bible Study Youth Fellowship at the onset of that program. He was an active coach for church youth programs his kids participated in as baseball, softball and basketball programs. He prepared youth meals for the youth that attended UMYF on Sunday nights and also loved serving in many different capacities with the Boy Scouts of America with Troop 890 in Dallas, TX. Nothing was more important to Lee than his family. He is preceded in death by his parents Lee May and Roland Evans Jacobs and his first wife Nancy Loren Jacobs. He is also preceded in death by his favorite Aunt Maria Cherry Marques Humphrey and his favorite Uncle Carl Bernard Jacobs. He is survived by his loving wife of over fifty years, Sandra Kay Tripp Jacobs. His daughter, Lee Ann Jacobs Alspaw and husband Joel Alspaw of Southlake, TX. Daughter Debra Kay Jacobs English and husband Jon English of Houston, TX. Son Jeffrey Evans Jacobs and wife Rebecca Anderson Jacobs of Plano, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Alex Alspaw, Emily Alspaw, Kelly Alspaw, Matthew English, Jacob English, Katy Jacobs and Megan Jacobs. In addition to his immediate family, Lee is survived by his brother-in-law, Frank Tripp and his sister-in-law, Rita Morgan and husband George Morgan and sister-in-law Linda Kulasik. He is also survived by nephews Hunter Tripp and Zachary Tripp and his niece Patria Jacobs. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care provided to Lee as he battled many illnesses over the last decade. In particular Dr. Harry Price, Dr. Jerry Estep, the staff of Methodist Medical Center, in particular the Cardiac Failure Unit and the Fondren ICU 2 unit. His home health care team of Amy and Anya provided a level of care that went far beyond the expectations of our family. Your compassion and many kindnesses mean a great deal to our family. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Friday before noon or Saturday after 11:30 AM.
