Lena Mae Sustala (Piercy)

7/1/1937-1/18/2025

Devoted mother and Christian

Mrs. Lena Mae Sustala née Piercy, 87, was called home to the embrace of her Lord and Savior on January 18th, 2025 in Pearland, Texas. Lena, known affectionately by many as “Mama Lena” or simply “Mom”, was born July 1, 1937 to Will Rogers Piercy and Josephine Marie Poncio in Harris County, Texas. Three years after graduating from Regan High School in 1954, she later married her husband, Fred B. Sustala, on November 27, 1957. Lena retired from Southwest Furniture after 22 years of service. She spent many years living in Pearland, moved to Lockhart, TX for 13 years, and spent her final years back home in Pearland with the community at Attiva. Regardless of where she was, she had no problems making friends. Wherever she went, her larger-than-life personality made her easy to adore. She was an outspoken, kind, beautiful, and caring soul. She loved spending time with her dear friend, Mary, catching up with neighbors, getting manicures, Red-Hat parties, playing Bunko with friends, and, above all else, she loved her family and pets. The only thing she loved more than her family and her pets, was the Lord. She was a very active participant in Bible studies, and loved to attend Pastor Reggie’s sermons at First United Methodist Church. Mama Lena also loved to cook, and often hosted large gatherings for the holidays.

Lena is preceded in passing by her husband Fred B. Sustala, son Jerry W. Sustala, and brothers Louis F. Piercy, and Anthony J. Piercy. Succeeding her life is her sister, Alma Jean (Terry) Lehman, her children; Jim (Janice) Sustala, John (Carolyn) Sustala, Debra (Mark) Scheurman, daughter-in-law Beth Sustala-Stivers, her grandchildren; Raven (Jake) Ryan-Machado, Allen Heider, Rachel Holmes, Amber Respress, great-grandchildren; Ezekiel Machado, RJ Holmes, Alicia Holmes, Cameron Holmes, and beloved dog Gunner.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church 2314 Grand Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581 on February 4th at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Church are appreciated, or flowers can be sent through Debbie Gilliam, at 832-309-9083.
