Lena Mae Williams, 85, transitioned peacefully on February 25, 2017, in Houston, Texas. She was born in Crawford, Mississippi, and raised in Whistler, Alabama, where she finished Mobile County Training School in 1952. She was recognized for her speed and skills on the track field, earning the nickname, "Tlene". She later moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she was a long-time resident, and worked at an automobile plant. Lena was kind, caring, devoted to her family and noted for her exceptional culinary skills. She will be loved and missed by a daughter, Hellena Stokes (Kenneth) residing in Houston, Texas; a son, Everett Williams, in Sterling Heights, Michigan; five grandchildren (Krishawn, Faida, Everett Jr., Imarogbe and Erica); a sister, Laura Hesley; niece, Kathy Ramsey; and great-niece, Shani Ramsey. At Lena's request, no formal funeral service will be held. A celebration of her life will be held in Detroit, Michigan. The date and time of the service will be announced later. The family wishes to thank you for your thoughtfulness, visits during her illness, and acknowledges with deep appreciation the many messages of sympathy and condolences during our time of bereavement. We are grateful for the care given by the staff at Houston Hospice, the doctors at St. Luke's Hospital, and Station #82 of the Houston Fire Department.
