Leona Sternberg

Leona Mattes Sternberg, 89 years of age, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Buckingham Retirement Community. Leona was born on April 30,1927 in New Orleans, La. She was the youngest of three children born to Izzy and Jennie Mattes. Leona married Joseph Sternberg on August 9, 1947. Her most important accomplishment was being a wonderful example for her children, Joseph Sternberg and Jenny Sternberg Gavranovic (husband Ron), her grandchildren, Kelli Gavranovic, Kristi Gavranovic Aleman (husband Matt), Justin Sternberg (wife Courtney), Josh Sternberg (wife Abby), and Rebekah Sternberg, great grandchildren, Hanna and Brody Sternberg and CJ Sternberg. Funeral services will be held on April 7, 2017 at 11:00 am at Congregation Beth Israel Memorial Garden Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, Texas 77055. Rabbi Dan Gordon will officiate at the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America,
