Manuel (Champ) Asevedo 1941-2015 Manuel Asevedo of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the age of 74. Manuel was born August 20, 1941 in Mumford, Texas to Mr. Lewis Asevedo and Mrs. Sofia Garcia-Asevedo. At a young age Manuel moved with his family to the Houston area where he attended Marshall High School. After completing high school he worked as a Seaman on a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine ship. Manuel later attended and graduated from The Manpower Business Technical Institute (MBTI) as a Computer Programmer. He was known affectionately by many names; Manuel, Mijo, Daddy, Poppie, PaPa, Hermano and Tio by the family he loved and known as Champ to his friends who gave him that nickname for his skill and love for boxing. Manuel was proceeded in death by his father, Lewis Asevedo, his mother, Sofia G Asevedo-Reyes, his brothers, Lewis Asevedo, and Roy Reyes Jr., his sister, Irene Waterman and Juanita Martinez. Manuel is survived by his wife of 55 years, Juanita Mendiola-Asevedo, his daughters, Brenda De Los Santos and husband Paul De Los Santos, Rose Robertson and husband Don Robertson, Cathy Flores and husband Mario Flores, Sheila Martin and husband Douglas Martin, his sons Manuel Asevedo Jr and wife Lori Asevedo, and Louis Asevedo also two sisters, Sophia Arriaga and Christina Simpson and husband Ron Simpson. Manuel is also survived by his grandchildren, Cara De Los Santos, Derek De Los Santos, Lacy Buschmann, Tasha Kinard, Jerrik Robertson, Vanessa Smith, Jasmine Flores, Leigh Martin, Ross Stone, Meghan Mondragon, Aim'ee Martin, Joshua Swonger, Devahn Asevedo, and Gavin Asevedo., his great grandchildren, Dominic De Los Santos-Lopez, Randy Johnson III, Olivia De Los Santos, Brenna Nowlin, Kobie Buschmann, Mia Buschmann, Taylor Kinard, Noah Robertson, Isabella Flores, Annabella Flores, Elijah Mondragon, Ethan Mondragon, Emma Mondragon, Londyn Bradshaw, Chloe Bradshaw, and Emma Bradshaw. He passed expecting his first great-great grandchild who will be named Kaisley Nowlin. He was also survived by a large amount of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. "Manuel, you were a great Man and will truly be missed by all." At The request of Manuel, a private ceremony to celebrate his life and accomplishments will be held by his family at a later date.
