Marcielle Ledbetter

August 30, 1938 — December 11, 2023

Our beautiful mother passed away on December 11, 2023, surrounded by family, from complications of Parkinson’s disease. She is now reunited with her beloved Tom and son Michael in heaven. We miss her so much but are comforted that her suffering is over. Marcielle was born August 30, 1938, in Houston, TX to David and Lois Follis. She was the youngest of three children. In addition to her brother and sister, she grew up with many cousins, aunts, and uncles, as her mother Lois was one of twelve children. When Marcielle was twelve, television was fairly new and not every household had one. A local TV station had a contest to name a cocker spaniel puppy. Marcielle submitted the name Teevee, and won the puppy! Teevee was a beloved member of the household for many years. Marcielle attended Reagan High School in Houston and was an officer on the Reagan Redcoat drill team. She graduated high school at 16 and then attended Abilene Christian College. Back in Houston during Christmas break in 1956, she met Tom Ledbetter, an engineering student from UT, also on break. They continued to correspond after going back to their respective colleges, and then got engaged the following summer and married on December 21, 1957. They had a happy marriage spanning 63 years until Tom’s death in 2021.

During their marriage, Tom and Marcielle lived in various towns in Texas, California, Alabama, and even Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, before settling in Friendswood, Texas in 1971. By this time, they had three children: Tammy, Tim, and Michael. In 1973, Marcielle decided to apply for a job at Mattel Toys. She got the job as a retail service specialist and continued to work for Mattel for 25 years, retiring in 1998. In 1991, Tom and Marcielle moved from Friendswood to the West Houston area and lived for 30 years in the Memorial area until Tom’s death. They enjoyed their retirement years with good neighbors and friends from church. They loved to go out to eat, as well as cook at home. Marcielle was a wonderful cook and baker. She also did volunteer work at the gift shop at M.D. Anderson for many years after she retired, and was active in Women’s Ministries at her church. Marcielle was sweet, kind, and beloved by all. She was beautiful inside and out. We will miss her so much.

Marcielle was preceded in death by her husband Tom, youngest son Michael, parents David and Lois, and siblings David Follis, Jr. and Sandra Nelson. She is survived by daughter Tammy Fowler (Terry), son Tim Ledbetter (Angela), and grandchildren Adam Fowler, Jordan Fowler, Kara Ledbetter, Grant Ledbetter (Hannah), and Sydney Ledbetter, as well as several nieces and nephews, and Tom’s siblings, Don Ledbetter and Claudette Bratcher. The family would like to thank the ladies from Nurturing Companions who took such good care of Mom as her disease progressed, as well as the kind caregivers at Lakehouse on Dixie who tended to Mom in her final weeks.
