Mark Campbell

June 23, 1973 — May 17, 2016

"Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God." - Ronald Reagan. On May 17, 2016, Mark Golle Campbell, of Houston, departed this world and arrived at his eternal home. Upon his arrival, he was greeted by his father, Art Campbell, grandparents Katherine and Leroy Campbell, grandmother Helen Golle, his cat, Fester and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Most likely, his second order of business was to seek out his hero, Ronald Reagan. No doubt the current political climate was the first topic of conversation. Mark was born on June 22, 1973 in Salem, Ohio, a short nine minutes after his parents reached the hospital. So even at birth, Mark was wonderfully unusual. Mark lived in Ellsworth, Ohio for a short time then moved with his parents to Baytown, Texas. From there, the family moved to Winter Haven, Florida where Mark graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1992. Mark moved back to Houston, Texas in 1993 where he began a long career in the retail appliance business. He worked for Montgomery Ward, Ferguson, The Great Indoors and, finally, Pacific Sales. At Pacific Sales, Mark was the manager of the Katy store, a position he held for four years. He made numerous friends throughout his career and will most certainly be missed by his co-workers. Mark was an avid history buff. He was a lover of politics and did thorough research before deciding which candidate and platform to support. Mark was a rabid Houston Oiler, Houston Texans and Houston Astros fan and spent many a Sunday afternoon celebrating the Texans' wins and mourning their losses. He was a huge animal lover. His three cats - Miss Kitty, Spidey, and Katy - were his fur children and he proudly posted their pictures and stories of their feline antics on Facebook. Mark loved film and tv and was always enthusiastic when discussing the latest plot twist on shows like "Breaking Bad" or "The Wire". Mark was a connoisseur of fine cigars and food. He was a big kid at heart and was always willing to engage in what could be considered childish activities without worrying about looking silly (which made him a big hit with his nieces and nephews). Most importantly, Mark was passionate about family. He made it his mission to help plan the last family reunion. It was obvious that he was in his element when surrounded by his relatives. Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Linda Campbell ; sister Tammy (Mike) Breiner; brother Skip (Teresa) Campbell; sister Candy (Allen) Turner; nieces Brittany Campbell, Sydney Breiner, and Erin Turner; nephews Garrett Breiner and Ryan Turner; aunt Nancy Linder; best friend, Steve Fishkin, and numerous cousins and friends. A celebration of his life will take place on Sunday, May 29th from 5:00 - 7:00 at La Perla Italian Grill and Seafood, 1438 W. Fairmont Pkwy, La Porte, TX, 77571. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a donation be made in his name to Houston SPCA, 900 Portway Drive, Houston, TX, 77024.
