Mark Woody

Mark Steven Woody, age 66, entered his Heavenly home, suddenly and unexpectedly, at his residence in Pasadena, Texas on June 18, 2021. Mark was born on July 3, 1954 in Pasadena, Texas, as the second youngest son to Willie (also known as Billie or “Memaw”) and Mike Woody.

Mark came from a very large family consisting of 6 siblings, more than a dozen nieces and nephews, 2 children, 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grand-children and even more extended family through his partner of 25 years, Robbie.

Mark was married to Bridgett Brogdon for 14 years, and had two children with her, his daughter, Stephanie in 1978, and his son, Richard Brian in 1982. His children were his life and absolute joy, through to the day he passed.

Mark started his career as a tugboat engineer, and later attended vocational school in mechanics and engineering to become a foreign car specialist. Eventually he came to own & operate his own business in the 1980s through the 1990s at Dutch Bros. Foreign Car Specialists, working mostly on Volkswagen vehicles. Later, he started working for Excel as a shipping manager and met his partner, Robbie, through Excel. He shared 25 wonderful years with her, not only as his friend, but as his devoted partner.

Through Robbie, Mark’s family then grew and he gained two step-sons, Walter and Jimmy, of who he cared for a great deal. He also was “pawpaw” to Jerry, Jerod, Colton, and Savanna.

Mark was the kind of man who could make you laugh at the most unexpected moment and had a unique and fantastically funny sense of humor. He was incredibly sentimental and soft-hearted. He was the kind of man and neighbor who would give you the shirt right off of his back, if only you’d have asked. He was a dedicated “Santa Claus” for his children, and played the part quite convincingly throughout their childhood. Truly, Mark loved every holiday, but most especially loved 4th of July. He loved silly movies, too. The sillier they were, they better they were. He really did love to laugh and sometimes would pull some pretty extraordinary pranks and stunts to get those laughs. He was a fun-loving hippie of the 60s and 70s, with long hair down to his waist, and wore the stylish, round, John Lennon, glasses for a time in his youth. Mark was a man of many talents. He wrote music, played the guitar, had a beautiful singing voice, had a knack to fix just about anything, and worked with wood – creating swing sets, stilts, toyboxes, even building an entire addition to his home once. He had many hobbies, including collecting stamps, baseball cards, as well as comic books and was a man who absolutely loved games of every sort – but most especially video games. He shared many wonderful memories with his children, playing video games with them back in the early days of video game systems.

He loved the outdoors, tremendously, as well. He had a taste for adventure in life: going skiing, hiking, bicycling, kayaking, tubing, rafting, boating, fishing, loved roller coasters, baseball games, monster truck rallies, rodeos, and even flew a plane once! He rarely turned his back on the chance to explore new places and do new things. He really loved his gardens, and almost always had one anywhere he lived. He loved wisterias, roses, China berry trees, and had grapevines, vegetable and fruit gardens and all sorts of trees. He, often, could be found working in his yard, especially during his later years of retirement. He was a man who actually died doing what he loved, in this case. He had a huge soft spot for animals, having had many beloved pets through his life. He really loved technology, too, as he often marveled at the leaps and bounds of the next new gadget or gizmo that would come out. He was a man who kept up with the times, no matter how fast it was moving.

Mark will be missed deeply on this Earthly plane, but has moved on to join those who went before him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Pearl Woody (Meadows) and Mike John Woody, and his brother James Conrad Woody.

He is survived by his partner, Robbie Gann; his children Stephanie Lynne Moran (James), and son Richard Brian Woody-Brogdon (Andrea); his step-sons Jimmy Gann (Crystal), and Walter Gann; his grandchildren Justin Brian Heath, U.S. Navy Active Duty EM3 Nathaniel Steven Moran-McNeely (Allison), Autumn Lynne Moran, Brittani Michelle Moran-Snyder (Brock), Brian Robert Brogdon, Sarah Paige Brogdon, and Joseph Ramses Brogdon; his step-grandchildren, Jarod Gann (Jessica), Colton Gann, Savanna Gann, and Jerry Gann; his great-grandchildren; his siblings Daniel Ike Woody (Darleen), Donald Mike Woody, John Samuel Woody (Susie), Mary Ruth Maughs, and David Lee Woody, as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on July 9, 2021 at 9am in Galveston, Tx. Details of this service can be obtained by contacting his daughter, Stephanie Moran at 817.449.8414.
