Mary Jo Watkins

Mary Jo Watkins, 88, passed away peacefully at her home on March 12, 2025. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother whose love and generosity knew no bounds. 

Mary Jo is survived by her beloved husband, James Ray Watkins; her children, Jamie Ray Watkins Jr., and wife Carla. Carol Word and husband Gary, and Brigit Williams, and husband Chris; her sister, Minnie Dunnigan; Her grandchildren, Sophie, and husband Adam, Jeffrey, Marie, Marilyn, Yasmin, Breana, Olivia, Caden, and Sadie; and her great-grandchildren, Ezra, Levi, Asher, and Eden. She was preceded in death by her son Adam Watkins, her parents, Annie Bell Phillips and Jim Phillips; and her siblings, James Phillips, Ray Phillips, Gladys Phillips, and Linda Agnew.

Mary Jo dedicated her life to caring for others. As a foster and adoptive mother, she opened her heart and home to countless children. Raising not only her own but also nieces, nephews, and anyone in need of love and guidance. Her kindness extended beyond family - she took in strangers and stragglers, offering warmth and support to those who crossed her path. 

She was one of the founding members of Lakewood Church, where she faithfully served in the nursery. Caring for countless babies over the years. Her passion for serving others also led her to run the church cafeteria, where she made everyone feel at home. 

Above all, Mary Jo loved her family deeply. She created a home filled with warmth, faith, and unwavering support. Her legacy of love and service will continue through the many lives she touched. 

A celebration of Mary Jo's life will be held at PYG Connect on March 17, 2025. A public viewing will take place from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Followed by the service from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 pm at Brookside Cemetery.

Her kindness, faith, and boundless love will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
