Michele Reeves Thomas, 77, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2024, in Houston.
Michele was an avid reader with a true passion for books and literacy. She frequented the downtown Houston public library weekly, creating cherished memories for her children as they were growing up. Known for her sharp wit, Michele loved to laugh and also had a deep spiritual calling, finding her true community at Hope Episcopal Church. Though she attended a larger church over the years, when she found Hope, she felt accepted and connected with her faith and the church in the way she always wanted. She was passionate about the values of loving thy neighbor and advocating for fairness and acceptance of all individuals. Michele formed lasting friendships with colleagues, church members, and individuals from all walks of life. She was incredibly thoughtful, remembered important dates, and made everyone feel special and acknowledged. Michele grew up in and raised her family of five children in Houston Texas. She met the love of her life, Tim when she briefly worked at a comedy club. They shared a true partnership that endured for 45 years, continuing to go on date nights and try new Houston restaurants weekly. They shared a love of cats, art, yard sales, progressive politics, urban Houston and friends and family with a healthy dose of laughter always filling their home.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Barkin, daughters Hillary, Mary, Naomi, son Theo, and grandchildren Cierra, James and Lexi and preceded in death by her father Mills Reeves Jr, mother Althea Reeves, and son Cameron.
Michele's hobbies included thrifting, puzzles, reading, home decorating, crafts, and caring for her cats. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
