Paul was born on August 10, 1939, in Jackson Mississippi and peacefully went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2024 in Houston Texas. He is survived by Cheryl, his beloved wife of 32 years, his sons, Mike (Brenda) and Steve (Abbie), grand children Adam Brummett (Ruth), Bayley Groce (Nathan), Emily Oliver (Corey), and Laura Brummett and great-grandchildren, Lauren Groce, Mia Groce, Maris Oliver, and Benjamin Brummett. He is also survived by his brother, Ben Brummett (Judy) and sister, Joan Brummett (Mike Lind). Preceding him in death are his mother, Gladys Brummett and father, Louis Brummett.
Paul was raised in Jackson, Mississippi where he graduated from Murrah High School in 1957. He graduated from Mississippi State University with an Industrial Engineering Degree. He served his country in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves. The majority of his engineering career was spent in Smithfield NC, where his sons were raised. While there, he began his career in computing, both servicing and programming them. Eventually, he moved back to Mississippi and continued his work in computing. It was during that time that he met and married Cheryl. One of his proud achievements was to obtain a Patent for a program he wrote in the very early years of Artificial Intelligence.
The couple were very involved in church work. Paul loved to minister and counseled men in the local prison. He helped build and maintain a church in their local neighborhood. He also helped another local church rebuild after a fire. They felt a calling to missions and moved to Vincente Guerrero, Mexico to help a missionary friend and his wife start a church and a local Christian radio station. Paul sustained a head injury while there, but continued the ministry with his wife for several years, working with the church and helping them plant a church in an indigenous area of the city.
They eventually moved to Tomball, Texas, where they have lived for 10 years. They chose Tomball because both Paul and Cheryl had family there. They joined the Tomball Bible Church and were active and served together on the Missions Committee. Paul’s health gradually declined and they moved to Houston to live in a Personal Care Home.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service for Paul on Wednesday May 15th at 11:00 A.M. at Tomball Bible Church, 400 N. Walnut St. Tomball, TX 77375.
The family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, to please send monetary memorials to: Tomball Bible Church, designated to the Missions Committee.
