Richard Lee Glass, 79, passed away while surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren on Thursday March 14, 2024.
Richard was born April 30, 1944 in Zeeland, Michigan as the youngest of 15 children to Martin and Katherine Glass.
He married his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Glass, on June 14, 1967. Serving in the the US Army ignited a love of the medical field, eventually fueling Richard to put himself through school to become a CRNA while supporting his family by working as an ICU nurse. He then practiced in Holland, Michigan before moving to Gallup, New Mexico where he practiced independently for over 20 years. He continued to practice in Texas until health issues forced his retirement after a career spanning greater than 40 years.
To know Richard was to love Richard. His smile, laugh, and sense of humor were contagious. He was generous to a fault and unwavering in his support of family, friends, God, and country. Whether it was the tastiest steak, loudest fireworks, tallest flagpole, fastest car, best vacation spot, or most unique gift, when you were with Richard the experience was going to be anything but average.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis, sons Jeff and wife Dessa, Victor, and Vincent, daughter Rachel Hammons and husband Joel, grandchildren Sean Glass, Reed Glass and wife Sloane, Lauren Glass, Julia Glass, and Landon Hammons, brother Wayne Glass, sister Karen Wissink, sister-in-law Loie Glass, and brother-in-law Norman Vugteveen and wife Char.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date.
