Robert Campbell

Dr. Robert Austin Campbell, a selfless man of deep faith, integrity, and humility - a beloved son, brother, father, father-in-law, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and entrusted friend - passed gently into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 22nd, 2019. He reflected the best of life's principles and espoused a sense of duty which defined his commitment, patriotic pride and longtime service to the United States Army Dental Corps.
Dr. Campbell was born to Helen and Austin Campbell at home in Sabinal, Texas on December 24, 1932. He was a country boy who loved fishing and hunting - an adventurer and explorer at heart. His earliest memories of play were in filling toe sacks with mesquite beans, in creating dirt roads for his handmade dump trucks and in yearning for a goat cart, finding wheels and a donkey, so that he and his younger sister, Barbara might also ride about in style and comfort.
He excelled in all academics and sports at Abilene Christian and went on to Baylor Dental College with didactic training at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and Walter Reed Hospital in Maryland. His residency and clinical training in Periodontics were undertaken at Tripler General Hospital in Hawaii. Throughout his service in the military he was the recipient of numerous honors and medals for his performance in senior dental and staff positions. Following his retirement from the military, he served as a Mentor and Chief-of- Periodontics in a General Dentistry Residency Program in California and as a Clinical Coordinator and Adviser of the Monterrey Peninsula College Assisting Program. Dr. Campbell was further associated in the private practice of Dr. Samuel Adams and Dr. Timothy Hale here in Houston from 1985-1993 and been honored with lifetime memberships in numerous lifetime dental associations.
Dr. Campbell was a loving father and loyal friend to many! Those who knew him will always remember his contagious smile, quick wit and caring ways. He was an avid, long-time golfer, a European skeet champion while stationed in Europe, a gifted and accomplished skier and all-around athlete. His strong moral character, incredible work ethic and love of family have left us all with treasured memories of his strong faith, expressed in the love and kindness shown through the years.
Dr. Robert Campbell is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Barbara Campbell Wallace, and his beloved daughter, Brenda Lee Epps. He is survived by his wife, Carol Shanahan Campbell; Brenda's mother, Suzann Campbell Kendrick; Brenda's husband, Edgar Epps; his grand-daughter, Toni Rene Pirrello, her husband Dustin, and their three daughters Kylie, Sofie and Aydan.
A Memorial Service celebrating Dr. Campbell's life will be held, with military honors, at 10:30, Tuesday, January 7th, 2020 at Christ Church, 3300 Austin Parkway. Sugar Land, Texas.
