Robert Wright, 86, passed away peacefully while holding hands with Donna, his
wife of 59 years. He is survived by his wife, his brother, three children, and seven
grandchildren. Upon his graduation with the Class of ’59 at the United States
Naval Academy, Bob proudly served as a submarine officer aboard the USS
Menhaden. Following his honorable discharge, Bob spent the next 30 years
working as an engineer for Shell Oil.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Bob and Donna spent their time traveling
and exploring the world, first with their children, then grandchildren. Bob was an
avid reader, aspiring pianist, frame-up car enthusiast, and never let a Sunday
close with an incomplete crossword.
Of his many pursuits and engagements, his most consistent was his service as a
platelet donor through the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. Over his life, he
donated 112 gallons of blood, positively impacting the lives of thousands of
patients. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you continue Bob’s legacy by considering
a blood donation in his name through the Gulf Coast Blood Center (reference
code R095) or blood center near you. You may also contribute to the Gulf Coast
Blood Center at https://www.giveblood.org/ . You could also just pour yourself a
martini and offer up a toast. However you choose to honor Bob’s memory, we
appreciate your role in his life and support for our family.
There will be a drop-in remembrance on Saturday, April 2nd
at Bob and Donna’s home from 1-4PM. If you need directions or other information, please email
davidwright727@hotmail.com
A committal ceremony at the Naval Academy Columbarium in Annapolis,
Maryland will take place this summer.
