Leonville, LA - Ronald Paul Lalonde, 65, passed away on Thursday, April 7th 2016 at the Cleveland Health Care Center in Cleveland, Texas. Ronald was a graduate of Leonville High and attended USL majoring in computer science. His University education was cut short by the Vietnam War and he volunteered for the USAF where he trained at a radar technician. Serving during the Cold War, he spent most of his military time at a remote radar site on the island of Shemya off the coast of Alaska and within eyesight of the east coast of Russia. He often related that on clear days, with binoculars, they could see the Russian soldiers manning their radar site and looking at them through their binoculars. After his military service, Ronald took advantage of his radar/electronics training and helped design and maintain the oil field x-ray equipment utilized in the pipe yards of the Houston area. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Grace Hardy and her husband Willie, Norma Knott and her husband, C. J., brother, Raymond Lalonde and his wife, Evelyn, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Offie and Marie Lanclos Lalonde, brothers, John Adam and Charles Ned and an infant sister, Velma Marie. He was fortunate to have had the opportunity to receive Holy Communion and Anointing of the Sick before his passing. With him at his final hour was his niece and godchild, Cindy Lalonde Falterman who cared for him during his year-and-a-half long battle with cancer. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 7th at St. Leo Church in Leonville, Louisiana beginning at 9:00 AM followed by a mass and the blessing of the ashes at 11:00 AM.
