Sharon Brown

June 20, 1948 — June 14, 2019

Sharon Brown, 70, a proud sixth generation native Houstonian passed away June 14, 2019 after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. She was born on June 20, 1948 in Houston, Texas to the late Evelyn Maurine Elliott and late Joseph Norbert Burch as the first of their 12 children.

Sharon had a strong love and dedication to faith and education throughout her life's journey. As a childhood survivor of polio, she became resilient and strong willed. In her teens, she left home to join the School Sisters of Notre Dame, a Catholic religious teaching order. She was released from her religious vows to take care of her ailing mother but later returned to her studies to become an elementary school teacher. She taught all subjects at Carmichael and Hancock Elementary for 25 years, with a particular love for music and art. In retirement, she maintained her commitment to service in her community as an active leader in her church's fellowship and founded Faith Twins with her best friend Betty Guerin in 2006.

Sharon's thirst for knowledge and new experiences became further evident in her love of travel. She and her husband Jeff traveled cross-country on road trips when their two sons were young and later the couple developed a shared passion for cruising around the world. Her favorite destinations were Barcelona, Croatia and Key West. Upon return from each trip, Sharon delighted in sharing photographs and stories, showcasing the people and activities she encountered. Throughout her life, she was warmly regarded as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, teacher, friend, artist and explorer. She connected with thousands of people and inspired greatness in everyone.

She is survived by Jeff Brown, her husband of 48 years, their two children Daniel and Chris, daughter-in-law Jessica, her siblings Diane Bishop, Norbert Burch, Cynthia Durnil, Robert Burch, Janet Burch Cobb, Ken Burch, Valerie Webb, Gwen B. Richards, Anita Morrison, Eric Burch, Monique McGuinn Rector and a plethora of loving relatives and close friends.

Sharon's funeral arrangements include a rosary service on Friday, July 12 at 6:00 pm and a Memorial Mass on Saturday, July 13 at 10:30 am. Both services will be held in the main church at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (19222 Tomball Parkway, Houston, Texas).
