Sterling B. Burnett

September 19, 1936 — December 23, 2024

Sterling B. Burnett, a resident of Houston, Texas for the past 67 years, passed away on December 23, 2024, at the age of 88. Mr. Burnett was born September 19, 1936 in Angelina County and was the son of the late J.B. and Velma Burnett. He was a patient at Vitas Hospice Care in The Woodlands at the time of his death and the family sincerely appreciates the care they extended to him during his last days.

Sterling was definitely an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and camping. He also loved hopping into his truck and going “messing around”, (driving all over Houston). He knew all the back roads all around town and could take you anywhere you needed to go. He loved being “on the go” and took his wife and children on many wonderful vacations throughout the United States.

Sterling was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. & Velma; brothers, Kenneth and Milton; and great granddaughter, Kinsley Martin.

He is survived and will be missed by his loving wife, Bobbie Joyce (Wilkerson) of 68 years; two daughters, Agenda and Janetha (husband, Kevin) Martin. He will be forever cherished and remembered by his three grandsons, Braxton (wife, Rhea) Martin, Quincy Burnett, and Trenton (wife, Sarah) Martin; great grands Gage, Micah, and Adelyn; two sisters, Helen Temple and Betty Barkley; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Sterling was affectionately known as husband, Dad, Pappa, Uncle and was a shining light for each of these titles. He was a member of Royalwood Pentecostal Church for many years until transferring to The Pentecostals of Atascocita. His journey on this earth was marked by serving in God’s Kingdom by outreach, bus ministry, mowing the church property, doing handy-man chores and working behind the scenes.

For over 40 years, “Sam” (as known by his co-workers) worked for Houston Gas Pipeline and Enron. He loved his career and was able to bless others by sharing many perks he received at this job.

His passing will leave a great void in the hearts of his family. We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way it was lived before dementia changed him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to The Pentecostals of Atascocita Building fund www.atascocitaupc.com.

A memorial viewing will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, followed by a memorial service in his honor at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 27, 2024, at The Pentecostals of Atascocita, located at 3448 Atascocita Road, Humble, TX 77396.

Interment will take place on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Lufkin, Texas.
